Multivario Tankbag Repair

Don’t throw it away…..Refurbish it!

Has your faithful Multivario split it’s seams and let you down? Does it appear there is no hope? Fear not, your solution is here on this page.

Does your tankbag base look like this?

I replace the torn fiberboard material with real leather. I reuse your bag’s zippers and bottom, reattach the strap and install new snaps for the raincover. Be sure to include your raincover so I can install matching snaps in it. I use a standard DOT snap as the original snaps are not readily available. You can get many more miles of use from your favorite tankbag again.

The cost of this service is $60.00.

Replacement foam available for your R Oilhead tankbag base. One inch thick closed cell neoprene will help protect your paint. $15.00

Zippers can be replaced on all bags, but due to manufacturing inconsistencies there are virtually no matching zippers available. Generally speaking if you have one bad zipper on the bag body, you have to replace all three to retain the "multi" function of the tankbag (zipping the top to the base without the center section). Zipper replacement averages $20.00 each zipper. The short zippers attaching the base to the mount are $20.00 a pair. The longer base mounting zippers (which curve around the back of the base) are $25.00 a pair. All prices listed are less S&H, which varies depending on how much of the tankbag you are sending.

Zipper preventive maintenance & repair

Here is your chance to "do it yourself" following these simple directions. First it is important to clean and lubricate your tankbag zippers. They are full of the road grime that you routinely wash off of your bike. I use a silicon spray, apply liberally, wipe zipper with a clean rag, reapply and operate the slide. What a difference!

You should also be aware that most, but not all BMW tankbags use locking tab zippers. To release the lock you pull out on the pull tab,  perpendicular from the direction of the slide travel.

If you have a zipper that seperates after being closed, you can often repair this by squeezing the slide together with a pair of pliers. You want to squeeze it just slightly, not to the point that the slide binds on the cloth portion of the zipper.

Note: This method works on any zipper that is not too worn, including jackets, pants and Stitches. Lube your tent zippers too, nothing worse than a 2AM nature call and being unable to get out!
